Cig Harvey Emulation:
The photographer I chose was Cig Harvey, after being inspired by her book You Look at Me Like An Emergency. Her work inspired because of its strong use of color. For my emulation, I tried to recreated both her focus on color as well as the way she positions her subject matter in her photos. I photographed my work outside mainly, using natural lighting for all of my photos. Most of my photos purposely violate the rule of thirds, with my subject matter place front and center so that it is the center of attention in the photo. For the first two photos, I tried to preserve balance and symmetry, but I did not do this for all of my photos. This mimics some of Harvey's work where the subject matter is also in the middle and right up front. In many of her photos, she focuses on a certain color scheme in the image (greens, whites/grays, etc.). I tried to do the same in my images, pairing the red dress with a red apple, as well as a red brick background. I also followed this line of thinking with the white dress, white garage, and white bird house.
