Ansel Adams was an American photographer renowned for his landscape photography, he was also a passionate environmentalist. He was born in California and took an interest in the beauty of nature at a young age. He had a close, supportive relationship with his father, who encouraged him to pursue a life close to nature. Adams began his photography career after being inspired by Yosemite National Park, and he joined the Sierra Club at age 27. He felt close to and primarily work with black and white images, but also experimented with color. Adams died from cardiovascular disease on April 22, 1984.
The third photo I have selected was taken at the Rocky Mountain National Park, and features the beautiful peaks of two mountains. The photo was taken outside in what seems to be a cloudy lighting situation, but there is beautiful light hitting the mountains still. It has strong contrast between the dark rocky spots of the mountain and the white snow. There is also nice contrast within the sky above, between dark clouds and spots of bright light shining through. This photo as well as many of Ansel Adams photos shed light on the significance of land preservation. Ansel Adams was a dedicated environmentalist, and he used his photographs to capture the beauty of untouched lands. His photos urge the importance of keeping these lands untouched and undeveloped so that they remain so beautiful. This photo communicates this idea by showing the raw, untouched mountains sitting ideal in a place not yet ruined by development of human beings.
