origins
For my second photo essay, I focused on my dogs (which I used in my original photo series). I based my series off the word "Origins", and wanted to tie in nature and the primal heritage of dogs into the images. To accomplish this, I took close up portraits of 2 of my dogs, Dakota (Siberian Husky) and Lexi (German Shepherd). I also took images of branches and forest scapes. I combined these images into double exposures, putting the forest/wilderness images inside of my dogs to exemplify the natural instincts of the animals and show that they all have their own roots back in the wilderness. I enjoyed the gradual transition from double exposure, to full nature within the outline of the dogs.
The bare, winter setting of each of the nature pictures helps to unify the images. The colors of all are light and warm, with colors like yellow, light blue and orange. This contrasts the dark branches in some of the photos. The photos of my dogs are unified because of the angle of which they were taken. Each if a side view portrait. Finally, I put each final image against a white backgroud. This unifies and it really makes the image/colors stand out.
